Leaving my comfort zone of nursing and embarking on the entrepreneurial journey is a bit scary, as I have mentioned. Like any new road, the key to success is to take one step at a time. The very first step in changing, is recognizing that a change needs to be made.
By this, I mean, realize that you don’t have all the answers to all the questions of the universe. Theoretically, we know this, but in practice, I believe we humans stay so comfortable that we actually believe there is nothing else to learn (or nothing else we want to learn). The older I get, the more I understand how little I actually know. I saw it written down on a chalkboard outside a retail store in Laguna Beach, CA, where we visited last weekend. Step One: Pick something you want to learn. I chose “Internet Marketing.” Then I set about the work of figuring out HOW to learn everything I need to know about internet marketing. I googled it. I read blogs. I found books on the subject. I clicked and clicked until my fingers burned and my head hurt. Here’s what I learned. I need to discover the answer to one question before I go any further. “WHO AM I?” A few books helped guide me to the answer to this question. Here’s a few. If you hate reading, or don’t think you have the time, download Audible. It changed my life.
My reading list: Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill; Wake Up and Live by Dorthea Brande; The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg; Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers by Robert M. Sapolsky; The Speed of Trust by Stephen M.R. Covey
